It surprises me, but I've had only a few complaints about the bot strategy in Spades. I rarely play with bots, so their problems haven't bugged me too much, and I haven't been highly motivated to fix them. However, when I do play, I've noticed one pretty obvious and irritating behavior: they tend to waste Kings. They'll play the King of clubs, for example, before the Ace of clubs has been played. This is a good way to lose the trick! With today's deploy, this bug is fixed.
In addition, someone mentioned to me that the bots sometimes bid nil when they are holding 5 spades! You will find various sites that recommend you not bid nil with 4 or more spades in your hand (e.g.
sky_rockets1's page or the
Rules of Spades site). This problem has been fixed as well.
I am far from finished with the bots. More improvements will be coming, when I have the time for it.

Thanks Marya..
I have also noticed that when you partner with a bot and you bid nil, your bot partner plays nil right along with you. They throw their high cards and save their low cards. This is no way to support your partners nil. Please put nil support on your list of bot things to fix...tks
Yes, when I create a new icon name, I play with robots until I reach the magic 10 number to turn my name to white. I am highly impressed with the robot fixes. They now bid like regular players tend to bid--always low. Finally, it is quite common to play with robots and have the over all bids 9-11 instead of 13-14 all of the time. This is a much better learning tool for new players. The real world of Spades awaits them. Smiles! Congratulations, Mar'ee-a! Well done!
Yes, this one is on my current to-do list! Thanks for pointing it out - always helpful to have feedback.
Yes, it is interesting that the bids tended to get lower, isn't it? More bags for all! I'm using some generally accepted rules for bidding... I hope to make them a little bit better at bidding later on. But first I'll work on improving their playing strategy.
Oh, please hurry and fix my bot partner. He/She needs to defend my nils!
I can confirm this. My bot partner kept throwing out low cards as if trying to set me and the competitor bots seem to be the ones providing cover.
Thanks to both "no bots plz" and davidly for this input! I've been working on the Euchre bots, but now I'm getting geared up to work on the Spades bots. I hope I'll get some of these problems fixed soon.
