Hearts hand history now available

Hand histories are now available in Hearts, so you can take a look at all the cards played after the hand is over. This feature was already available in Euchre, Spades, and Pinochle. If you wish to report a bug in Hearts, please try to grab the hand history, and send it to me along with the bug report. To do this, click the little floppy disk that appears next to your nameplate after a hand. This will download a small text file that contains a link that can be used to show a replay of the hand, with all cards shown. Use this after your game to see how each card was played.

This morning's update also contained a bug fix. A few players were having trouble with a "TypeError" message when trying to get to a table. That problem has been fixed.

Also, the Spades bots got a bit of tuning to fix a bug in the way that they cover a nil bid. Thanks to "no bots plz" for reporting this issue (together with the hand history - that helped so much)!

Note: in my previous blog post, I mentioned that I would soon be adding a "decay" to the Elo ratings. I got a few comments from people who just want the Elo rating hidden. I could do this instead. Does anyone care which way this is done? The intent is to encourage people to play, rather than "sitting" on their ratings.

i do not want the elo ratings hidden. i like to have some idea of what my partners rating is. I play rated games to hopefully win and dont want to play with someone who has a very low ranking. It is frustrating to play with someone who has little or no idea how to play. I can do that in non ranked games. If this is introduced I will not play in rated rooms

I would not hide the Elo ratings in ranked games, just in unranked ones.

Ratings should be hidden ONLY for inactive players. I didn't think of hiding inactive players in the unrated games - but you are right to do so. People who sit on their ratings should have no bragging rights on either the leaderboard nor in the unrated games. Once they play a rated game, their rating goes back on display.

WHO - one currently sitting on my rating LOL

The decay is a very bad idea. No one should be penalized for not having the time to play. The rating should stay the same as they've earned it.

In unranked games and on the leaderboards, you mean, of course. Perfect and perfectly simple.

Yes, that's exactly the plan that I intended to suggest.

Anononymous is not alone in wanting to know their partner's rating before before a game starts, needless to say. This is why you need a "start" button. As it is now, the unpartnered player at a table with three players awaiting a fourth has to play 'partner roulette'.

It is also less than perfect that you do not average the scores of partners before calculating new ratings. It goes without saying that it is an advantage to me if my partner is high-rated and a disadvantage if they are low-rated... and this advantage or disadvantage will correspond precisely with the extent of the ratings differential (what else?).

Finally, it is good that someone who quits a game should be given a ratings loss but why should the opposing team be given a ratings boost? In effect, once someone quits, only their partner can go on to lose... the other team can do no worse than achieve the ratings equivalent of a tie... a win against one player and a loss against the other. If anyone should be compensated for someone quitting, it should be their partner. Right?

I like the idea of a start button. I will not join a rated game as a third player as you don't know who your partner will be and if it happens to be someone you do not wish to play with you can't leave. The other two players can leave if they are not happy with the partner that joins them.
As for the scoring, all too technical for me, happy as it is.

Yeah or a countdown timer to give a little time to leave.

Hi, here's the post on how to like a player at World of Card Games. Short answer: click the yellow star beside them.

I agree. Please give a start button or a timer.

I would like to see a definition of the terms in Ratings. I looked up ELO, but the other two are a mystery.
